EControl Portal
@ CARe
CARe is a chain of over 60 car repair
centers with a total of over 1000 employees.
EControl Portal has been implemented based on a detailed systems management monitoring plan. CARe’s objective is to have clear insight into the performance,
scaling, and uptime of the Server Based Computing farm and the SQL servers.
Two SQL database clusters process CARe’s most business-critical applications. The terminal server farm consists of ten dual processor systems.
EControl Portal is used for systems management of both the front-end and back-end infrastructure. The Portal checks critical processes like CPU and memory usage, computer temperatures, table spaces, database connections and performance quite frequently. Network infrastructure is another crucial process for CARe; every minute EControl Portal checks the bandwidth usage and all the traffic that is transported over the network.
With the Portal in place, CARe has a better control of the ICT dependability on which the primary business process - repairing cars - depends.
EControl Portal @
the City of Heusden
The City of Heusden has
realized an innovative and challenging project that involves the application of Server Based Computing and Wireless
technology. The objective was to achieve a new way of working that is absolutely workplace independent. Employees can do their work from any
location: in the office, from their homes, from other sites or facilities, and from any of the three city halls.
The Server-Based Computing infrastructure is based on Windows 2000 Terminal Services,
Citrix Metaframe and Nfuse. The City’s operation is completely
"web-based". Printing is also workplace independent. Based on an intelligent pass
system, users can select any printer in the network to perform their print jobs. This project was awarded the second prize in the Dutch governmental
"Quality and Innovation" initiative.
EControl Portal is applied to monitor and administer the entire ICT
infrastructure. The terminal server farm’s performance is monitored
continuously. The City performs resource and systems management as well as application management and
control. All important network components are monitored using SNMP. E.g. the wireless transmitters in the different office buildings and monitoring the network traffic and the
load. The authorization process on Exchange mail server is checked using POP3
login. Authorization on the Nfuse web server is realized using content
checks. Escalation processes are in place 24 * 7 hours a day, 365 days per
year. |
